Holiday Hangover!

Great 4 days spent eating, drinking, cleaning, donating, hanging with the sibs, Disneyland, cruising, watching football, walking, lightweight shopping…

It all caught up to me today! Exhausted by 8:30 and crashed. Woke up an hour later… Still awake…

Monday, please be kind!

Thankful Thursday

Here we are again…the latest edition of Thankful Thursday!!

I am thankful for…

Yesterday I celebrated my 35th birthday!! A day full of laughs, tears, warm fuzzies, love, sunshine and friends…

For the most part, I am healthy! Earlier in the year, I had a health scare. The looming idea that I might have MS, kind of put alot of things into perspective for me! Do not take anything for granted!!

I am grateful to have spent my special day with the people that mean the most to me; C, my sibs and Jen and Van!!

Lord willing, I will make it to see 36!!

Who Knew…

Bowl of "Wings"

…that making Buffalo “Wangs” was so easy?

In all my Food Network experience, I’ve seen wing recipes that require a multitude of steps.  Until, that is, C and I saw an episode of “Best Thing I Ever…Made!”  Low and behold it was one of my favorite chefs, Sunny Anderson.

She made these “wangs” for Chef Emeril Lagasse.  We fired up the deep fryer and got busy.  I must say, we make a great team in the tiny lil’ kitchen.  Not at all as sickly sweet as the Neely’s, good gawd I cannot stand all their PDA and small talk!! Anyhow, C did a fab job of separating the drums from the wings and removing the tips.  I am not a fan of that job!! After that, I followed the recipe, only to add a bit more lemon juice for tang!!

So tasty! That’s alot coming from me because I am still conquering my aversion to eating meat STILL attached to the bone.  I have come a long way though.  He’s so proud…

Needless to say, the pad still smells of fry grease and buffalo sauce. A fat kid’s heaven? Hmmmmm, perhaps.  Good thing that was all I ate today!! Still under my allotted calories for the day! HA!!

This is a very hard post…

I’ve struggled with the idea of posting this, but this blog is for and about me! So here goes…

If you know me, you know I LOVE kids! I’m kinda like a kid whisperer! In public, kids are drawn to me. I have this kid aura! That being said, when I meet new parents at work, they are amazed that I do NOT have kids. I always get: “You don’t have kids?”, “How old are you?”, “What are you waiting for?”.

It’s just not our time. Someday I will be fortunate to be called the name I’ve yearned for…MOMMY! I will have earned and prepared for it!!

I would be lying if I said that I didn’t want to be blessed with a baby NOW! I’m a bit sad and jealous (not an attractive trait, but it’s the truth!) when I see all my friends as parents sharing the love, running themselves ragged for their kids and making it happen.

Someday that will be me!! I can’t wait!! I pray everyday that I can do it without the guidance of my own mom!! I can only dream, for now…

Quasi-Productive Saturday!

So, I woke up on a mission to stay on my agenda!! I didn’t get to EVERYTHING, but here’s what I DID do….

  • cook breakfast for C and I
  • 6 loads of laundry; wash, fold AND put away!
  • start to rearrange closet
  • wash 50 eleven thousand dishes
  • several block walk with O
  • discard old purses
  • take a nap
  • de-clutter desk and bar
  • vacuum and dust!
  • clean the stove

I will not discuss the things I did not get around to.  That’s another post!! Wanna hear it? Hear it go…

OC Fair with a chance of Reign!

An impromptu trip to the OC Fair? Sure, why not?

C’s friends had planned a night at the fair to see Purple Reign, a Prince cover band. I wasn’t sure what to think but was open to the experience. $15 admission to the fair and concert…such a deal.

The concert was awesome. “Morris Day” even performed. I was getting my bird on, walking boot n’ all!

Several beers later, the concert is over and we head to the Gravitron. Not usually one for spin n’ puke rides but this one was fun. Lotsa spinning, no puking!

We even managed to fit in some fried Kool-Aid! Great night out!!

The Sleeping Culprit!!

Silly me! I forgot to snap the anti-Otis lock on the fridge! This lil’ dude pulled C’s freshly grilled ribs out of the fridge and took off with one!!

The chase is on! I pried the half-eated rib out of his mouth and banished him to his “house”! Jeeeez Louise! Gotta love him!

IGNORANCE is NOT bliss!!

C and I went out to celebrate Beth’s birthday last night!! We get to Auld Dubliner and its packed…NO BIGGIE!! We work our way to the reserved table to enjoy the Whooligans, some food and libations.

In case ya didn’t know, C is a black dude, a pretty big black dude at that!! 🙂 We make a joke of the ratio of black dudes to white dudes.  We can count on ONE hand the amount of color in the spot, NO BIGGIE! We are used to it.

We decide its time to leave after a few hours of people pushing our chairs, spilling beer on us and general tom foolery.  So C gets up and immediately a dude wants to talk to him about the Clippers! Huh? Really? You havent said a word to us all night. You see a black dude and you wanna talk basketball? Mind you, there’s NO sports on in the bar!! So we keep walking…another dude yells, “Hey, its the dude from the Longest Yard!” His whole lil’ crew starts laughing hysterically.  Are you kidding me? C plays it off! Me?  Not so much!! I’m on one!! My face gets all frowned up, eyebrows positioned in bitch-mode! I make sure they know that those comments are not ok! Choice words come outta my mouth! Some random girl apologizes, still not okay!!

Why do people, in 2011, think its “OK” to say those kinds of things to people? NO, it was not a racial slur or derogatory, but STILL!  That was the first time in a LONG time, something like this has bothered me this much! We get looks, “moufs” and comments from black women ALOT and are used to it! Just laugh it off! Is it more hurtful to me because they were white? I don’t know, I just know that I don’t like or condone the HATE!!

Grow up people!!
