The Happiest of Birthdays!

Today marks my 36th year on Earth.

As I reflect on all my years, I’d like to share some of my fondest memories.

As a child, I would look forward to my mom coming home from from school with my cake. Her assistant, Doris, baked my cakes every year. I was always so excited to see how it was decorated. My favorite had a carousel on it.

One year, my sister Beth took me to my first Laker game. That was cool because I got to share that with my mom. One of bucket list items was to see a Laker game!

When I turned 30, Edgar and my staff at OP threw me a party at the Rumba Room. We did it UP; limo, VIP. Bottle service, the whole nine. Good times.

Oh yea, one time when I was still pretty young…maybe 3 or 4. We went to our FAVORITE Mexican restaurant for my birthday. They sang Las MaƱanitas to me. I cried and hid under the table. I didn’t understand what and why they were singing to me. I still don’t like to be the center of attention. LOL

Now my birthdays are pretty low key but memories are still made nonetheless. Here’s to many more healthy and memorable born days!!

Empathy

Tonight, watching Parenthood, something struck me. One of the Moms was diagnosed with breast cancer. It showed her trying to be strong for her family, for her kids, and for herself. But behind closed doors, she was a mess.

I can only think of my mom. When I was born, her whole world was turned upside down. She relied on everyone to take care of me. I can only IMAGINE her pain. Her emotional pain, along with the physical pain that goes along with cancer and radiation. Did she have someone to turn to? A rock? Who helped her get through that tough time? I don’t know any of the answers, but I know she beat that fucking cancer.

Not only to have to go through it ALL over again. But this time, not ever being diagnosed. I know in my heart that she lived with cancer and KNEW it. She didn’t want anyone to know. Why? Because she couldn’t fight anymore? Because she “lived long enough”? What were the reasons? What a hard thing to live with and not reach out for help. Just to live in pain.

I miss her so much and sometimes I wish that she did have more fight in her. But who am I to judge? I’m just a girl, who misses her mom and wishes she had one more day, or week or hour.

I hope that cancer never affects my family again. But if it does, I promise to be all I can for that person.

Day of Disney!

A typical Saturday at Disneyland!

A visit to the “World Famous Disneyland Band”! A great way to start the day!

Taking in all the sights; new Spring flowers, happy children, tons of goofy, unchapperoned teens, balloons and Spring Breakers!

The sister sib and I sauntered about looking for a “mostly” healthy lunch. We decided, errr I decided on a chicken salad at the Mexican spot! Yummy romaine lettuce, chicken, jicama, radishes and pepitas!! It was just enough!!

A new experience…the canoes. In all my visits, I’ve never worked that out. It was fun and a bit frustrating that my fellow rowers would NOT row!!

I brought along my new toy! The Heart Rate Monitor! I’ve always wanted to know how many calories I burn walking all throughout the park! Today’s magic number was 398!! Not too bad for a leisurely visit!!

We played with the 4S camera and took a few pics! Such a beautiful day!! I am so fortunate…

Weekly Photo Challenge – Waiting

20111205-001814.jpg

This weekend was Disneyland’s Annual Candlelight Processional. Sara and I opted to watch on Saturday at 5:30.

We got there early to stake out a spot, 3:00 early! It was cold and I endured bad ass kids kicking and knocking into me for 3 and a half hours.

As the sun went down, it was time to light up the Main Street Christmas Tree!! Check it out!

All the waiting was so worth it! Hundreds of choral singers walked in with their candles. All got positioned and the whole show got on the road. Gary Sinise narrated this year. He did a GREAT job. It’s very moving to hear the story of Christmas with live music and choir singers. A definite must see!!

Holiday Hangover!

Great 4 days spent eating, drinking, cleaning, donating, hanging with the sibs, Disneyland, cruising, watching football, walking, lightweight shopping…

It all caught up to me today! Exhausted by 8:30 and crashed. Woke up an hour later… Still awake…

Monday, please be kind!

‘Nuff Said…

Thanksgiving Cooking, Held Back!

As you may know, I love to cook. Being stuck with a small apartment, an even smaller kitchen and a bistro table that seats 2…needless to say, I cannot host Thanksgiving dinner.

I long for the day. Even though I am a great cook, I always get assigned the easiest things. This year it’s garden salad. So, I got my fixins but was left a little less than satisfied.

A co-worker brought her Food Network magazine to work today. I perused it’s pages and dog-eared several recipes. One that I made as an appetizer for tomorrow. I will call them Easy Cheesy Corn Puffs and here is the recipe. it is really quite easy and super yummerific! I can’t stop eating them. I hope some make it to my sister’s tomorrow.

1. What’s the last thing you spent too much money on?
This morning I bought my EARLY birthday present!! A Jawbone Jambox. Can’ wait for it to arrive!! I’ve been waiting for over a month to buy it. Gotta love my music!!
2. What celeb chef would you want to make you dinner?
I want TWO!! Paula Deen and Guy Fieri! Guy can just hang out while Paula is cookin’, that’ll make it fair!! I’m sure I would gain 10 pounds from her down home south cooking though!! Yummmmmy!!
3. Where do you hide things when visitors pop over or do you let them see the real deal?
In my room and close the door! Some folks can see the clutter, but mostly I stash it!! Yes, it’s true, I suffer from clutter-itis! Sue me!
4. Who is your oldest living family member?
My family is real small! All I have are my brother and sisters and my dad! I don’t know any of my dad’s side of the family! My mom’s immediate family has all passed on! I believe it’s up to me to branch this family tree out! In due time…
5. What is your favorite DQ treat and/or Sonic drink combo (ie: cherry vanilla dr. pepper)
I’ve been to the Sacred Sonic a dozen times and I mostly go for the food!! A friend turned me on to the Cranberry Slush, that is tasty. I’ll stick with burgers and tots!!!
Now it’s your turn! Go over to My Little Life and link up!! Go on, go…do it!
